The Origin of Imitation Shark Fin Soup :

It is said that the "Mock Shark's Fin Soup" appeared in Hong Kong during the 1940s and 1950s from Temple Street, Yau Ma Tei. Few people at that time could afford genuine shark fin soup, street vendors collected the broken parts of shark fins discarded by the Chinese restaurants and cooked them with mushrooms, egg, and shredded pork, and season with soybean powder, MSG, soy sauce, and other seasonings. Serving in a small bowl and selling it at a low price, a tasty but cheap option for everyone to have a taste of eating shark fin~
